Gyra

Gyra

Gyra (or Gira) is the name of the long and narrow beach strip which has formed in front of the lagoons of Lefkada Town. It is an extension of Agios Ioannis beach, popular among kitesurfers.

Gyra spreads for a few kilometers along the asphalt road and ends near the castle of Agia Mavra to the east. The widest part of the beach which is opposite Agia Mavra is known as Kastro beach, and Kastro ends with a small sandspit known as Ammoglossa.

Gyra has coarse sand and small pebbles. It is not organized with sunbeds and parasols and it has only one beach bar working in the summer, close to the place where it meets Agios Ioannis. Despite its proximity to windy Agios Ioannis, Gyra is usually calm and there are no waves because it faces mainland, not the open sea.
