Gefyra

Gefyra is also known as the New Monemvasia because it has developed around the bridge that connects mainland with the huge rock with Kastro Monemvasia. Thus its name - Gefyra means "bridge" in Greek. The village gets very busy with tourists almost all year round, there are many hotels, guest houses, tavernas, cafes and fast food. Compared to the old Monemvasia, you can have parking space right to your hotel, and the Castle and the ancient town are just 30 minutes walk away via the bridge. The bridge and all the road to the Castle are illuminated and it is very beautiful at night.
Gefyra also has a small fishing port so you taste fresh fish and sea food in the seafront tavernas. The beach strip of the village is narrow and rocky so in the day tourists go to the nearby beaches of Pori and Xifias.
