Gaios

Gaios

Named after Saint Gaios, the capital and the largest settlement on the island of Paxos is located on the southeastern coast. It has a picturesque port with two small islets in the middle - Agios Nikolaos and Panagia. With the colorful houses and cafes along the promenade and the plenty of boats and yachts, Gaios has its own spirit and atmosphere.

There are many guesthouses and apartments to rent but the larger hotels are outside the village since the buildings and streets in Gaios are small and narrow. The liveliest part is around the small square with the church and the beautiful promenade. Here you will find a bakery, pastry shops, cafes, taverns, fast food and even a fish market. Close to the port there is a small strip of pebbles - the municipal beach of the village, called Gianna.

The boat trips around the island and the water taxis to Antipaxos depart from the port of Gaios. The closest beach on Antipaxos, Vrika, is within 10 minutes boat ride.
