Ftiotida Region
the area of the Thermopylae and hot springs
Ftiotida Region
The administrative unit of Ftiotida (also Phthiotis) occupies part of the mainland opposite Evia island. Its capital is the city of Lamia. Ftiotida is most known for the Thermopylae which is on its territory. The hot springs which gave the name of the ancient site can also be seen there, as well as monument of Leonidas from Sparta. The coastline of Ftiotida facing Evia has numerous small settlements. Some of them serve ferry lines from and to Evia (like Arkitsa, Agios Konstantinos and Glyfa), others have mineral springs and are visited for healing purposes (like Kamena Vourla).
