Episkopi

Long beach strip and blue sea with waves

First of all, you should be aware there are three villages on Crete which bear the name Episkopi, in three different regional units - those of Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion. This one is in Rethymno region, very close to the seaside resort of Georgioupoli and Rethymno town (18 km).

Episkopi is an inland village 3 km from the sea but the seaside which is close to the settlement is known as Episkopi beach. This beach is part of long beach strip which starts from Georgioupoli and continues for many kilometers eastwards. It is very wide and sandy, with a couple of beach bars and taverns which provide sunbeds and parasols, but due to its open location there are often waves and wind. The main island road passes along the beach and access is easy. The village of Episkopi is relatively large but almost all hotels are built along the road which goes from the village to the beach. Episkopi is also listed as a traditional settlement of the island, with preserved old houses and many churches. In the area one can visit one more authentic village - Argiroupoli, with the archeological site of Ancient Lappa, and Kournas lake.
