Donoussa belongs to the Small Cyclades but it is quite remote from the other islands of the group - Iraklia, Koufonisia and Schinoussa. That makes it one of the least visited and one of the best off the beaten track destinations of all the Cyclades islands.

Donoussa has one village and a couple of terrific sandy beaches which are highly estimated by wild nature lovers.

Where to stay in Donoussa?

The main village, Stavros, is a tiny settlement built amphitheatrically above the port. Most hotels and services are concentrated here - small guesthouses and apartments to rent, as well as a supermarket, a bakery, doctor`s office, ATM and a few tavernas.

Except for Stavros, there are two other settlements or rather neighborhoods - Charavgi and Mersini, with a few guesthouses and a taverna. The island has just one paved road. It starts from Stavros and reaches the beach of Kalotaritissa in the north, with a total length of 10 km.

Which are the best beaches of Donoussa?

Donoussa has a few beaches which can be reached by car - Kedros, Kalotaritissa, Sapounochoma and the small beach strip of Stavros which is next to the port.

Kedros is the largest beach of the island and it is also considered the best, with shallow water and fine sand around the shore. It is within walking distance from Stavros and there is a small beach bar in the summer but you will not find amenities like sunbeds and parasols to rent at any beach of Donoussa. Another sandy beach is Livadi, accessible reach it either on foot or via water taxi from Kedros.

On the south coast there are a few more beaches like Fykio and Limenaria but they can be reached only via hiking trails.

What to do in Donoussa?

There are no archeological sites in Donoussa and no entertainment options are available. The island is best for tranquil holidays and hiking.

Seal Cave (Fokospilia) is a popular nature sight located on the east coast of Donoussa. It is a sea cave with bright blue water and you can visit it by boat.

How to get to Donoussa?

There is no airport in Donoussa. The island is connected via regular ferries to Naxos, Amorgos, Iraklia, Schinoussa and Koufonisia (3 times per week).

A few times per week there is a ferry which connects Donoussa with the port of Piraues and the journey takes approximately 7 hours.
