Avlaki

Avlaki is located on the south side of Nisyros island. It is the old harbor of Nikia and is not in use anymore. Until 1950s, the harbor was the entry point to Nikia. Ships stopped nearby and rowing boats transported goods to the storehouses on the seafront. Donkeys carried the loads on the way up to the village. Now the pathway is partially overgrown and the harbor buildings are abandoned. The pier is usable but suitable only for very small boats.

There are springs with hot water heated by the volcano underneath, and in the past there was spa with basins with warm water. The sea is shallow and the seabed is covered with black, red and ocher stones. Avlaki is a great place for isolation, sunbathing and swimming.

Access on foot takes around 30 minutes via steep pathway which is paved with stone. Access via car or ATV is possible via dirt road that starts near the entrance of Nikia.
