Avlaki
Avlaki is located on the south side of Nisyros island. It is the old harbor of Nikia and is currently used for swimming only. Until 1950s, the harbor was the entry point to Nikia. Ships stopped nearby and rowing boats transported goods to the storehouses on the seafront. Donkeys carried the loads via kalderimi way up to the village. Now the pathway is partially overgrown and the harbor buildings are abandoned. The pier is usable but suitable only for very small boats.
There are springs with hot water heated by the volcano underneath. In the past there was spa with basins with warm water.
The sea is shallow and the seabed is covered with black, red and ocher stones. Avlaki is a great place for relaxation, sunbathing and swimming.
Access on foot takes around 30 minutes via steep pathway which is paved with stone. Access via car or ATV is possible via dirt road that starts before the entrance of Nikia.
