Cave of Antiparos

The cave

There are a number of sea caves around the shores of Antiparos but this cave is located inland. Also known by the name of Agios Ioannis, it is one of the deepest vertical caves in Europe open to visitors.

The cave is located on a hill close to Soros beach, 2 km from the sea and 9 km from Antiparos Chora. At the entrance you will see the chapel of Agios Ioannis which probably gave the name of the cave. Entrance fee is applied (EUR 6 per adult in 2021) and the working hours are from 10:00 to 16:00 in the summer but this is often subject to change and needs to be checked in advance.

In order to explore the cave, you will descend on 411 steps - make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Inside you can see the oldest stalactite in Europe, estimated to be 45 million years old.
