Angidia

The nearby monastery

Angidia (also Agkidia) is a small village of Naxos, located very close to Naxos Town. The distance to the main port and the castle is less than 3 km.

The village is built on an elevation, at the feet of the rocky hill where the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Chrisostomou is located. Most of the houses are relatively new but in the traditional for the Cyclades style, and there is permanent population all year round. A few guest houses and villas are available to rent, and there is also a taverna. The location is very convenient if you plan to visit Naxos Town frequently and to explore the north part of the island.

Approximately 7 km away from Angidia you can visit the ruins of Kalamitsa, an abandoned Jesuit monastery from 17 century.
