Aetolia-Acarnania is a large administrative division of Greece, located in the central part of the country and connected to
Peloponnese through the bridge of Rio-Antirio (close to Patra). The most famous place in the area is the coastal town of
Nafpaktos in the south, with its ancient Venetian fortress. The west border of the region faces Ionian sea but tourism is scarcely developed. The port of
Astakos, serving ferries to and from
Kefalonia and
Ithaca, is also here.
