Sanctuary of Poseidon Tenaros
The ancient Sanctuary and Death Oracle of Poseidon Tenaros is located in southernmost Mani, where the road ends. This is the last place to go by car on the peninsula and the Sanctuary is just next to it, above the sea. The path which leads to Cape Tenaro also starts from here.
The Death Oracle is a small low building with ante-chamber and chamber with altar. On the altar you will see various small items like coins, candies, buttons, sea shells, etc - these are the gifts that visitors leave for Poseidon because according to a local legend, you should give him something as a gift to avoid his fury.
