Palataki
Palataki is the building which dominates over the harbor of Limenaria and is present on almost all photos of the village. Its name means ”small palace” because of its design made by an Italian architect in the beginning of 20 century.
Palataki was built as an administrative building of the German company Speidel which was engaged in mining on the island. After 1960 the company activity was terminated and since then the building has been abandoned. It is still in very good condition although it has not been restored, and it was declared a national monument. There are planned restoration processes which aim to turn Palataki into an exhibition hall or place for cultural events but still no actions have been taken. You can see the building from closely outside, it is easily accessible via the road above the harbor.
In the evenings Palataki is illuminated and visible from almost the entire village, making the harbor more scenic.
