Ormos Panagias

harbour

Ormos Panagias is the port of Agios Nikolaos and it is located on the northeast coast of Sithonia. In translation the name means `the bay of Virgin Mary` and it was named after the church built there during the Byzantine rule and restored in 1970. The boat trips around Mount Athos and the monasteries depart from Ormos Panagias.

The settlement is small and does not offer variety. At the harbor there are a few fish tavernas and a fish market from which you can buy fresh seafood. Next to Ormos Panagias lies the large sandy beach of Trani Ammouda (Levrechio), with plenty of guest houses and hotels. The coastline between Ormos Panagias and the nearby Vourvourou is rich in small beaches and coves, around which one can also find villas and guest houses.
