Neos Marmaras

Boats around the harbor

Neos Marmaras is the most populous place on Sithonia and a renown summer resort. It is located on the southwest coast of the peninsula, between Nikiti and Toroni, 118 km from Thessaloniki. It was founded in 1922 by refugees from Marmaras, Asia Minor, and thus the name.

Noes Marmaras is built on the slopes of three hills, at the feet of the Dragondelis mountain. Part of the village is situated on a rocky cape in the sea, and some of its streets are quite steep and narrow. Variety of hotels and rooms to rent are available, as well as restaurants, bars and shops, and nightlife is vibrant in the summer.

Neos Marmaras has two beaches - the main beach to the south, and the beach of Paradisos to the north. The resort also has a port where boat trips to Kassandra and Mount Athos are organized. Neos Marmaras overlooks the uninhabited island of Kelyfos, known as Turtle Island. Don`t think that you will see turtles there - the name comes from the island shape, and kelyfos means "turtle" in Greek. It is rocky and has no shores. Almost all boat trips to Kassandra pass by Kelyfos and let the passengers dive into the water around it.

Nearby you can visit the old village of Parthenonas with well-preserved houses of past times. A few km south of Neos Marmaras is located the large hotel resort of Porto Carras.
