Lake Maries

Lake Maries is the only lake in Thassos island. It is located high in the mountain, 3 km away from the village of Maries and 15 km from the sea. The section of the road from Maries to the lake is not paved.

The lake is surrounded by dense pine forests and the air is very fresh and cool all year round. Many fishes can be seen but fishing, as well as swimming, is forbidden. There is also a small waterfall near the lake, and a tiny cave which have formed out of intertwined rocks and trees. The cave is known as the Cave of the Elf.
