Isternia

The square in front of Agia Paraskevi church

Isternia is the village with the best unrestricted sea view in the whole island. Because of its elevated location, in certain points of the village you can feel almost as if walking in Santorini caldera. In clear weather you can spot Syros island in the distance, and the best view is revealed from the small square in front of the church of Agia Paraskevi.

Isternia used to be a significant marble center in the past. Marble was widely used in the construction of the village a few centuries ago and you will notice this when you stroll in the steep alleys. There are two cafes with open-air balconies near the square, and two tavernas along the road which passes right under the village.

The port of Isternia, called Ormos Isternion, is located 5 km and the closest beach is there. The villages of Pyrgos and Kardiani are also close.
