Gerakini
The village of Gerakini is located about 80 km away from Thessaloniki. It is situated in the Toroneos Gulf - the gulf between the peninsulas of Kassandra and Sithonia. As a resort it started to develop after 1960. Except for tourism, it was also known for its magnesite deposits - a mineral form of white stone. Today in one spot on the beach abandoned mine can be seen.
The resort is not very big but it is well developed and offers a choice of restaurants, hotels and shops. The beach is long and sandy, and the sea is relatively shallow, suitable for children. The place is a good starting point for trips and exploration, as it is close to places on both Kassandra and Sithonia.
