Elafonisos Village

The ferry enters the harbor and people are enjoying the view

Elafonisos Village is the largest settlement on the island. It may also be considered the only settlement because the other, Kato Nissi, is very small and consists of a few houses only.

The village of Elafonisos is in the northernmost part of the island which is the closest to mainland Greece. The ferry from Pounta arrives at the small village port, and the village also has its own ferry which serves regular courses to Pounta. Along the port with the fishing boats there are a few tavernas and a bakery, some of them work all year round, others are closed in winter. The church of Agios Spyridon, built on a small islet in the sea and connected to the port via bridge, is the first thing you will see when approaching Elafonisos.

Within the village there is a beach called Kontogoni.
