Chorefto

The beach in May

Chorefto is a small resort on the northeast coast of Pelion, with long and wide beach. Probably its beach is the longest on the entire peninsula, stretching without interruption for more than 2 km. Chorefto is located approximately 8 km away from the traditional mountainous village of Zagora and 5 km away from the village of Makrirrachi. On the map Zagora looks closer and just about Chorefto but in fact the road connecting them has many turns and it is longer than it looks at first sight.

Chorefto is a summer destination and in winter there are no working facilities. It is not densely built and thus all hotels and guesthouses with studios to rent are close to the beach and the sea. In the summer a few beach bars operate there, as well as a mini-market and a few tavernas and cafes offering fast food options like sandwiches and pancakes. The sand on the beach varies from fine to coarse, mixed with pebbles here and there around the shore, with transparent water. Due to the exposed location, in windy days big waves may appear but the advantage is that it never gets crowded, even in the busiest months, and you can always find a place somewhere on the enormous beach.

Just a few kilometers away south from Chorefto, accessible via a coastal road, is another large beach - Agii Saranda. If you follow the short unpaved road starting from the north end of Chorefto, you will reach the pebbly and more isolated Analipsi beach.
