Monastery of Archangel Michael
The Monastery of Archangel Michael is built on a cliff above the sea, located on the southeastern coast of Thassos between Astris and Alyki. Its foundation dates back to 13 century and it is the biggest monastery in the island, attracting many tourists not only with the old church and museum but also with the beautiful gardens and terrace with sea view.
The most valuable thing that can be seen in the religious collection of the Monastery is a part of the Holy Nail from the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The nuns in the monastery strictly observe for the dress code - long skirts and covered shoulders for women and long trousers for men. If you are not dressed properly, you will be borrowed clothes at the monastery entrance.
